Thelwall Morris Men started in 1973 and, after 50 years of dancing, and gradual reduction in team size, the decision was made that the future of Morris dancing in Thelwall is not through a men only team. At the 2023 AGM, it was resolved to drop the men only description and include membership for all. Hence the new Thelwall Morris.
The "new" team hopes to continue like its "predecessor" and continue to dance almost exclusively Cotswold dances.
We meet on Wednesday nights, practising during the winter months and dancing out at local pubs during the summer. We also attend local fetes and other events, such as Thelwall Rose Queen, though dancing out at the moment depends on the availability of dancers and musicians.
We also meet up with other teams at annual events throughout England, usually taking place over a weekend, and the team has toured Ireland on five occasions.
Morris dancing requires a certain degree of fitness as dances can be vigorous, though this improves over time, so if you are interested contact the team: email@example.com or come down to a practice at Thelwall Parish Hall on Wednesdays - times vary so check the website in advance.
The web site is full of information about the team's history (short or long) - a hint of what to expect.
